our safari begins with a domestic flight from Zanzibar to Kogatende Airstrip in the Northern Serengeti. Upon arrival, your professional Marhaba Escape Safari driver-guide will welcome you and begin your first game drive.

The Northern Serengeti is one of the most remote and spectacular sections of the ecosystem. During the Great Migration season, enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the region as they follow seasonal grazing and water sources.

The Kogatende area is particularly associated with the Mara River crossings, when migrating herds gather along the river before attempting to cross. Watching a crossing is one of Africa’s most dramatic wildlife experiences, but the timing and location are entirely dependent on the movement of the herds and natural conditions.

Spend the day exploring the Kogatende area and surrounding northern Serengeti landscapes, searching for migrating herds as well as resident predators. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and numerous antelope species can be encountered in this region.

Continue to your camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, set out for a full day of game viewing in the Northern Serengeti.

This remote region offers a different atmosphere from the busier central areas of the park, with wide-open landscapes, rocky outcrops, riverine habitats, and fewer safari vehicles in many areas.

If the migration is in the region, your guide will monitor recent herd movements and select suitable areas to search for wildebeest and zebra. Depending on the season and conditions, the herds may gather near the Mara River or spread across the surrounding plains.

The Great Migration is a continuous movement of large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, and other herbivores across the Serengeti ecosystem and Kenya’s Masai Mara. Its exact location changes throughout the year in response to rainfall and the availability of fresh grazing.

Beyond the migration, the Northern Serengeti supports abundant resident wildlife. Keep watch for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, and a variety of antelope species.

Enjoy a full day in the wilderness before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, depart the Northern Serengeti and begin a full-day game drive toward the Central Serengeti.

If the migration is still in the northern region, your guide will continue to monitor opportunities to view the herds before gradually travelling south. The Mara River crossing, when it occurs, is a natural event and cannot be scheduled or guaranteed, but being in the right region during the appropriate season provides an opportunity to witness this remarkable spectacle.

As you travel toward Central Serengeti, the landscape gradually changes into the classic open plains and rocky kopjes for which the park is famous. These granite outcrops provide important shelter, resting places, and viewpoints for wildlife.

The Serengeti is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros—as well as cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, impalas, and numerous other species.

Continue your game drive through the afternoon before arriving at your accommodation in the Central Serengeti for dinner and overnight.

Begin the morning with a game drive through the Central Serengeti, taking advantage of the cooler hours when many animals are active.

The Central Serengeti is renowned for its year-round resident wildlife and expansive savannah landscapes. Search the plains and surrounding kopjes for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and other wildlife.

During the appropriate migration season, parts of the Serengeti may also hold large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra. Your guide will use current wildlife movements and local knowledge to determine the best areas to explore.

After your game drive, begin the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route takes you from the open Serengeti plains into the cooler highlands around Karatu.

Arrive at your mid-range lodge in the evening, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the following day’s crater safari.

After breakfast, meet your private safari guide and travel to the Ngorongoro Crater for your final wildlife experience.

Descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor and explore this extraordinary enclosed ecosystem. The crater’s combination of open grasslands, woodland, wetlands, and water sources supports an exceptional concentration of wildlife.

During your game drive, look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, hyenas, hippos, and other species. The crater also provides an excellent opportunity to search for the endangered black rhinoceros.

The crater is not home to giraffes, as the steep crater walls make it difficult for them to access the floor. Your guide will help you understand the ecological differences between the crater and the wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

After your game drive and lunch, ascend from the crater and continue toward Arusha.

Depending on your onward travel arrangements, you will be transferred to Arusha Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar or to your next destination.
